About Our Opportunity

As a PLC Electrical Engineer you will assist the Engineering Manager with the overall responsibility for engineering/maintenance activities on both sites including but not limited to: capital projects, purchasing, installation, commission, fault finding and maintenance.
Working as part of a team the post holder will design, install, commission and provide technical support PLC based control systems, data communication networks and plant electrical systems, together with general maintenance activities on site.
Ensuring that the plant is running at an optimum level, minimising downtown and achieving all internal maintenance demands, in an effective and timely manner, in a way that minimises costs and maximises efficiencies.
This opportunity will be working day shift only 40 hours per week.

What you will be doing

• Carry out effective maintenance and repair on machinery and services. Adhering to preventative plans, downtime reports, breakdown reports, and daily maintenance plans
• Conduct process development projects to improve performance. These include but are not limited to projects to increase throughput, improve quality; reduce operating costs, reduce waste, and increase the value of by-products.
• To review and assess current maintenance practices, implementing continual improvement initiatives, ensuring that service levels afforded to our internal customers are maintained at a high level
• Compilation of reports including but not limited to: fault repairs, PPM, Lost time reports, breakdown reports and expenditure
• To liaise with the Engineering Manager, Maintenance Team Leaders & Production management on all aspects of maintenance on a daily basis taking account of daily production plans and forecasted through put to ensure that targets and specifications are reached within agreed timescales
• To provide accurate feedback regarding machinery that is faulty/broken to all relevant parties ensuring that others can plan accordingly
• To ensure that site and team comply with all applicable H&S and Engineering based legislation and company rules
• Ensure that you help your team achieve targets, yields, specifications and quality standards by performing your tasks with the greatest care and attention
• PLC alterations & improvements
• New installations, including programming of new software and collating information to assist the operations of the machinery/equipment
• Instrumentation improvements – to change/improve instrumentation maintaining accurate readings
• Ensure that machinery and services are maintained to meet individual department’s requirements, utilising the most appropriate and efficient maintenance regime. Reporting any faults to the Engineering Manager immediately.
• To ensure that the machinery and equipment used is of a safe standard, reporting any malfunctions, missing components (for example guards and screens) immediately to the Engineering Manager/Shift Manager
• To assist fellow work colleagues and working together with other areas/teams and departments to ensure that overall business objectives and targets are reached
• To attend training courses to strengthen your skills and knowledge within the area within which you work and attend further training sessions to develop your skills further within other areas of the plant.
• Suggesting improvements to work practices, machinery operation and services to improve the plant operating efficiency
• Effective implementation of accepted changes to working practices, contributing continuously to improvement programmes when required
• Working with external contractors to achieve effective and efficient maintenance and service of machinery, buildings, HV and LV systems when required
• To engage in ‘on-the-job’ training and coaching to gain experience and knowledge in PLC

About You

• Degree-level qualification in an appropriate Engineering discipline, apprentice trained or another formal qualification
• Experience in PLC touch screen controls and electrical maintenance
• Good organisational and multi-tasking capabilities
• Excellent analytical and communication skills (written and oral)
• Problem solving and root cause analysis experience
• PLC programming skills
• Experience of HV/LV Networks and Infrastructure
