HGV Class 2 Site Driver / Operative (Short-Term Contract)
Location: Sowerby Woods MBT, Barrow-in-Furness
Pay Rate: £20.00 per hour
Contract: Temporary (Approx. 2–3 weeks)
Smart Solutions are recruiting on behalf of our client for a HGV Class 2 Site Driver / Operative to join their team at the Sowerby Woods MBT facility in Barrow-in-Furness.
This is a short-term assignment, initially for a couple of weeks, providing cover for existing team members. It is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Class 2 driver looking for immediate work.
Shift Pattern:
This role operates on a rotating three-week shift pattern. Depending on your start date, you may begin on Week 2 or Week 3 before joining the normal rotation.
Week 1
- Monday to Friday
- 6:00am – 2:00pm
Week 2
- Monday to Friday
- 2:00pm – 10:00pm
Week 3
- Monday evening to Saturday morning
- 10:00pm – 6:00am
There are regular opportunities for overtime, including up to 12-hour shifts to provide holiday and sickness cover, as well as occasional weekend working when required.

The Role
As a Site Driver / Operative, you will be responsible for carrying out a variety of site-based driving duties, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of materials around the facility.
Your duties will include:
- Operating a tug vehicle around the site.
- Driving a Roll-on Roll-off (RoRo) skip vehicle.
- Supporting the day-to-day operation of the waste processing facility.
- Carrying out daily vehicle checks and reporting any defects.
- Following all health and safety procedures.
- Assisting with general site duties when required.
Requirements
- Valid UK HGV Class 2 (Category C) licence.
- Valid Driver CPC qualification.
- Digital Tachograph Card.
- Previous experience driving RoRo vehicles is desirable but not essential.
- Telehandler licence would be highly advantageous, but is not essential.
- Reliable, safety-conscious and able to work as part of a team.
- Comfortable working in a busy operational environment.
