We're looking for an Associate Software Engineer with strong analytical skills and a keen desire to learn while developing, implementing and supporting Jira & Confluence, software solutions and software renewals as part of our Engineering Excellence team.

Our Mission: Increase efficiency and agility across engineering teams enabling them to mobilise quickly and deliver quality, secure, right first-time features for our customers at reduced costs.

Enable operations teams to pro-actively monitor and quickly report across critical systems.

An Associate Software Engineer reports into the Engineering Manager and contributes to the delivery of our mission through a combination of design, build & implementation activity together with working alongside multiple engineering teams across the department, supporting them to adopt new ways of working. The role will involve strong collaboration with others - be it learning from examples of existing great engineering work, collaborating with others to create it or mentoring engineers to use it.

This role will initially focus almost exclusively on Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management ways of working, development, configuration and support, and over time evolve to include the wider goals of the team.

Your Role

Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management

  • Administer technical solutions, projects & spaces created by Jira, Confluence and their associated plugins
  • Support upgrades to the Atlassian toolset
  • Support User access / JML processes
  • Contribute to the development of key system-wide customisations
  • Train and guide various levels of users within the business
  • Provide technical support to end users to help address system queries & issues
  • Maintain documentation to aid in queries

General

  • Contribute to Licence management of Atlassian and other software
  • Work under guidance of Software Engineers to understand problems, analyse requirements & deliver solutions that enhance engineering productivity
  • Write code for low latency, highly available and scalable solutions
  • Contribute to delivering initiatives to improve system observability, incident response processes and operational efficiency
  • Continually update technical knowledge and skills using internal training as well taking time to self-develop utilising external sources
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning, experimentation and innovation within the department

What You'll Need

  • Hands-on experience in Jira / Confluence Administration (Project setup including Customisation)
  • Familiarity with Jira scripting languages (JQL, Groovy) and Jira APIs
  • You will be familiar with at least one of the technologies used in Asda's wider technology landscape React native/JS, JAVA, C#, .NET, Azure SQL
  • Have experience / knowledge within a modern software engineering role including use of automation and the CICD toolchain
  • Have experience working to an Agile methodology (e.g. XP, Kanban, Scrum, SAFe)
  • Knowledge of monitoring and alerting tools: Knowledge of tools like New Relic or Azure Monitor and Azure App Insights
  • Cloud platform knowledge: Experience with container, serverless and other cloud technologies
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Knowledge of tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation for managing and provisioning infrastructure
  • Pro-active, enthusiastic, conscientious, detail-oriented and able to work well under general guidance
  • Highly resilient, employing a relentless can-do attitude in the face of adversity
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Able to discuss technical information with both technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Able to identify and manage risks through to resolution
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Atlassian Certifications would be an advantage
